13 Oct 2015 – Malaysia Research University Network (MRUN) and Innovative Research Universities, Australia (IRU) Steering Committee Meeting successfully held on 13th October 2015, at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru. This is the third meeting between IRU and MRUN since collaboration started and officially signed on November 2014.
Ministry of Higher Education and IRU have agreed to each allocate RM2 million for a three-year collaboration in two main streams, Research and Teaching & Learning (T&L). This collaboration involving 5 Research Universities in Malaysia, Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) dan Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and 6 Research Universities in Australia which are Charles Darwin University (CDU), James Cook University (JCU), Griffith University, La Trobe University, Flinders University and Murdoch University.
IRU delegates who lead by Professor Martin Carroll,Pro Vice Chancellor Academic of CDU accompanied with all project leaders for T&L and two officers from IRU. Prof. Dr. Rose Alinda Alias, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) UTM, leads the T&L stream for MRUN while Prof. Dr. Ruzy Suliza Hashim the Deputy Director, Centre for Research & Instrumentation (CRIM) of UKM representing the Research Stream.
For the first year of collaboration, four projects under T&L has started and actively progress which. The projects are – The Use of Learning Analytics to Support Improvements in Teaching Practice lead by CDU and UTM, Higher Education Active Learning Spaces (HEALS) lead by La Trobe and UKM, Criteria and Standard for Effective Teaching in Higher Education lead by Murdoch, Flinders and UPM, and University students’ digital readiness for emerging technologies as cognitive tools lead by JCU and USM. Whereas research stream will start all of projects this month.
